Monday after the Second Sunday after Easter, 4/30/01Luke 4:17--21 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book, and found the place where it was written, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recover of sight to the blind, to set free those who are downtrodden, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord." And He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon Him. And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." --NASB
In the name of the One Who was anointed to preach the Gospel, amen.
Are you poor in Spirit? Are you held captive by sin and fear of death? Are you blinded by unbelief and downtrodden with guilt? Well Jesus' ministry is to you. He came for you, to give you eternal treasures, to free you from sin and the fear of death, to open your eyes to see, and to take away your burden of guilt.
Christ Jesus' ministry was prophesied long ago, and it continues to this day. It is a ministry that is designed to help the helpless. We are certainly among those helpless that our Savior came to help. Glory be to His name for the great mercy He shows to countless poor, captive, blind, and downtrodden souls. Amen.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, You came to bring healing to a sick world. Heal us by Your Holy Spirit. Bring us to eternal life in You, amen.
