Saturday after the Seventh Sunday after Trinity, 8/12/00Psalm 135: 5-7 I know that the Lord is great, that our Lord is greater than all gods. The Lord does whatever pleases Him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depth. He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth; He sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from His storehouses. --NIV
In the name of the One Who is greater than all gods, amen.
Science began as an attempt to discover the "how" of God's creation. It has now come to the point of throwing out the creator, because it is unable to prove or disprove His existence. A wise man might at least leave open the possibility of something existing even if it can't be proven by scientific method. But I suppose we are not as wise as we would like to think we are.
God has always hidden Himself from man ever since the fall into sin. We cannot see Him and live. But He has given us plenty of evidence of His existence, and we find much of it in nature.
So, the humble faith sets aside man's wisdom and marvels at God's creation. Humble faith steps back and looks at creation and sees a reflection of the power and glory of God. When we take a moment and really look at creation, can we feel anything but very small? On all sides we are surrounded by the evidence of God's love and glory. Praise be to His name forever, amen.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, there is evidence of Your existence all around us if we will just open our eyes to see it. Help us to stand in awe of you, Lord. Help us to know that as Your hand is at work in the world, it is at work for the good of Your people and the glory of Your name. Help us, by the Holy Spirit, to thank and praise You forever, amen.
