Monday after the Tenth Sunday after Trinity, 8/28/00Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, "Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us." He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the LORD shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and distress them in His deep displeasure: --NKKV
In the name of One Who laughs at those who rebel against Him, amen.
Anyone who studies medieval history can't help but realize that kings often lived in fear of losing their thrones. Those that didn't were typically too stupid to realize the dangers around them. There were very few kings that were so powerful that they didn't have to worry about being dethroned. But for a king to laugh at rebellion, to deride those who stand against him shows incredible power. That is the sort of power that our Lord has. There is no one who can overthrow Him, and those who rebel against Him are fools.
In our world today there are many people who think they can do away with God. They take their stand against Him and His people. They may even kill some of God's people or persecute them, but they cannot overthrow God, and they will not win. God is in Control. He protects His people. He may tolerate the rebellion for a while, but the time will come when He will put an end to it and His people will rejoice in victory. Amen.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we live in a rebellious world full of evil. We suffer in this world and long for the day when evil will be destroyed. Remind us that you are in control and will put an end to evil and rebellion, amen.
