Monday after the Seventh Sunday after Trinity, 8/7/00Hebrews 1: 1-3 God, Who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through Whom also He made the worlds; Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things; by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. --NKJV
In the name of the One Who upholds all things by the word of His power, amen.
Let's see we've got global warming; a lingering nuclear threat; biological warfare; kids who want anarchy; clear-cutting of primeval forests; killer hurricanes tornadoes, fires, floods and earthquakes; West Nile Disease; AIDS, gun violence; and a few other things too. Some people claim that we lose a species a day in the Amazon Jungle. How will the world survive? Why do we bother to go on living? Hey, I should have stayed in bed this morning with my head covered!
But it isn't that desperate at all. Christ is still in control; He won't let it be destroyed. Rather than looking to man to solve the problem, we need to look to Jesus. Man, after all, is the problem. We are the ones who brought evil into the world. But there is hope for us, and it is in the purging of our sins by Jesus. By that act He reversed all the evil we brought into the world. Sure, the effects still linger, but He will take care of that too one day. He will take care of that when comes again and renews all things. Amen.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, all things were created for and through You. But we have rebelled against You and destroyed Your beautiful world. We beg for forgiveness because You gave Your life for us. Help us not to despair when we see the disaster around us. Give us the Holy Spirit so that our faith is strong and we trust in You to uphold all things, amen.
