Proverbs 19:17 He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward him for what he has done. --NIV In the name of the One Who rewards those who help the poor, amen.
God tells this truth, that what we do for the poor we do for Christ, several times in Holy Scripture. It is not some sort of new teaching that came from Jesus, it is the teaching of God's mercy on all people of all times.
So, do you want to be rewarded well by God? Then by all means be kind to the poor. God Himself promises, through King Solomon, that He will reward those who are kind to the poor. Amen.
Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, give us the heart of our Savior so that we will have compassion on the poor as He had compassion on them, amen.
