Isiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. --NKJV In the name of the Son Who is given to us, amen.
When we talk about the fact that we have been justified and saved form our sin we tend to focus mainly on the work of Jesus. However, there is something else which must be included in the discussion. That is the person of Jesus Himself. The two natures in Christ (that He is both God and man) is not just a topic for academically minded theologians. Rather, this doctrine is very practical, and it relates directly to our salvation. In the words above Isaiah is prophesying that the very Son of God was to be born a human child, just like you and I once were. Also, that little baby is none other than the almighty God Himself. So why is this so important to the Christian faith? There are two reasons really.
First of all, Christ had to be born a human so that he could live and die as only humans do. If Christ had not been a human he would not have lived a human life or died a human death and thus would not have accomplished our salvation. Secondly, Christ had to be true God so that his perfect life and death could accomplish salvation for the whole world. If Christ had been merely human, no matter how perfect his life and death were they could not have achieved salvation for all mankind. So you see, dear friends, it is very important that the church maintain this article of faith absolutely pure and uncorrupted, for it gets to the heart of our salvation. May God grant this always. Amen.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, we thank You that You came into this world as both God and man to accomplish the work of our redemption. Help us to always maintain this article of faith with believing hearts even though it is hard for us to understand, amen.
