Friday After the Eighth Sunday After Trinity, 8/10/01

Luke 12:1, 2 Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: "Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known." --NIV In the name of the One Who will reveal all things, amen.

Certainly all of us harbor a little hypocrite within ourselves. We have our thoughts, attitudes, and desires that we carry with us that we would never reveal to anyone. If we firmly believe that we don't, we most likely have fooled ourselves with our own hypocrisy. But be certain, as today's passage tells us, there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, and nothing hidden that will not be made known. Our hypocrisy will find us out!

Yet, even the sin of hypocrisy is forgiven for those who are in Christ Jesus. As it is written, "There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1). So, the hypocrite is covered by the blood of Christ, on which the new man thrives. Thanks be to God in Christ Jesus our Savior, amen.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive our hypocrisy. Help us to yield our entire will to You. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and help us to live for Jesus, amen.
