Monday After the Second Sunday of Advent, 12/11/00
Romans 14: 11, 12 It is written: "'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.'" So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. --NIV
In the name of the One before Whom every knee will bow and every tongue confess, amen.
"I bought a book on how to stop procrastinating, and I'm going to read it tomorrow." That joke would be funnier if it were less true. And nowhere is it truer than in the spiritual realm, because many people, who never put anything off in the physical world, put off taking care of spiritual matters. But just as there comes a time when it is too late in physical things, there is a time coming for us when it will be too late in spiritual things.
It is not hard to be ready, though. God gives us everything that we need in order to meet His judgment completely prepared. He gives us complete forgiveness in His Son Jesus, and He gives that forgiveness to us in ways that we can touch. In Baptism our sins are washed away. In the Lord's Supper we take into ourselves Christ's body and blood which have the power to strengthen the new man within us. Christ Jesus is coming again in judgment, and He has given you everything so that you will stand in that judgment. God bless your faith! Amen.
Prayer: Dear Lord, we know that we will bow before You and be judged, and that we must be innocent or we will be damned. Lord Jesus, we bow before you now and confess that we are sinful. Forgive us because of Your innocent death. Cover us with Your righteousness so that we may appear before the Father spotless and holy, amen.
