Matthew 24: 30 And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the Sky with power and great glory. --NASB
In the name of the Son of Man, amen.
Are you a procrastinator? Do you follow the credo, "Never do today what you can put of 'till tomorrow?" That is the approach of many people toward salvation. "Oh, I don't need to go to church now, I can do that later when I am older," of, "When I have kids, then I'll go to church." Sadly, many Christians take a similar approach to their salvation thinking, "I just don't have time to study my Bible every day, I'll do that when I am less busy."
Behind this sort of thinking is the idea that we will have some warning about when Christ will return. But Christ Jesus himself said that no one knows the day or the hour of His return except His Father in heaven. "Oh, but we will see Him coming and there will be time enough to get our spiritual houses in order," someone might argue. But He told us His return would be like lightening flashing across the sky. Here He tells us that His sign will appear and the tribes of the earth will mourn as they see the Son of Man coming with power and glory. It will be too late.
The time of preparation is right now, and all the signs that Jesus gave of His return are designed to make us stay prepared. The signs show us that He could return at any time. He warns us so that we confess our sins and receive His body and blood for the strengthening of our faith now, before it is too late. Amen.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for warning us how suddenly You will return. Keep us by Your Holy Spirit so that we avoid gross sins. Guard our faith, and feed us on You word and You body and blood so that when You do return, we are ready to receive You, amen.
