John 5:39 You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me. --NIV In the name of the One about Whom the Scriptures testify, amen.

What would you rather have, what you need, or what you want? Many people have a view of Jesus that comes from what they want, rather than from what they need. More than that, there are plenty of preachers who will tell us all kinds of tales about a Jesus that they have made up. Fortunately the real Jesus is what we need, and the Bible tells us about Him. If we study the Scriptures, and hold ourselves to what they say, we won’t be led a stray either by our own imagination or by the imagination of someone else.

In the Bible we find the real Jesus. We don’t find someone who came to show us the way, but to be the way. We don’t find someone who taught us how to be perfect like God by what we do, but someone Who made us perfect like God by what He did. In the Scriptures we don’t find someone who pitted the poor against the rich, but someone Who brings all people, rich and poor, together as beggars before God, and gives them the wealth of salvation. Yes, you diligently study the Scriptures because in them you have Jesus; that is, you have life. Amen.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are known from what is written about You in the Holy Scriptures. Help us to study them diligently so that we are not fooled by our, or someone else’s, false ideas about You. Keep us in The Faith by Your holy word, amen.
