Thursday after the Fourth Sunday after Epiphany, 2/1/00

Romans 6: 9, 10 Knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin, once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. --NASB

In the name of the One Who died once for all, amen.

Have you ever wondered how it can be that Jesus' death could apply to all people? After all, the Scriptures point out that no one can redeem the life of another (e.g. Psalm 49: 7). Salvation is actually only possible because both natures of Christ worked together to accomplish it. Christ had to be human in order to fulfill the Law and to die. Christ had to be God so that His perfect life and innocent death could apply to another, that is, to all people.

If Jesus were only a man His sacrifice could only have saved Himself at best. But because He is the infinite God, His sacrifice applies to everyone. Blessed be the name of Jesus, whose sacrifice applies to everyone. Amen.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, You brought salvation to the world by Your infinity. Bless us with faith in Your sacrifice that You made once for all, amen.
