1 John 1: 8, 9
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
--NIV
In the name of the One Who is faithful and just, amen.
There are people who claim that once a person becomes a Christian, he will not sin anymore. They believe that this is not only possible, but is the mark of a true Christian. This passage speaks clearly enough to such people. But we too must realize that we sin a lot every day. We should not get the idea that we are better than anyone else according to what we do.
On the other hand, we should not despair and begin to think that maybe we are not really Christians. The Lord tells us through the hand of Saint John the evangelist that He is faithful and just to forgive the sins of those who confess their sins. This is what it is truly like to be a Christian. We live in a state of Grace. On the one hand we sin constantly. On the other hand we are repentant--confessing our sins, trying not to sin anymore, restoring what we can, and having an attitude of humility before God. May the Lord, by His Holy Spirit, give you true repentance. Amen.
Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, we confess that we sin daily and do not deserve Your love. But, because of the life and death of our Savior Jesus Christ, we ask that You forgive our sins and help us by Your Holy Spirit to live a life that is pleasing to You, amen.
