Luke 8:13 "Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away." --NIV In the name of the One Whose word we receive with joy, amen.

This passage is from the parable of the Sower. That parable speaks about how the word of God is received by various people. It is interesting that this passage doesn't say "If the time of testing comes," but rather, "In the time of testing." The faith of every one of us is tested. It is tested to purify and strengthen our faith, but the faith of some doesn't survive the test.

What about you? Will your faith pass the test? By God's grace it will. By God's grace your faith will grow deep roots that can live through any test. God grant you such a faith, amen.

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, we know that our faith must be tested. Strengthen our faith by Your Holy Spirit so that it survives the test and brings us to eternal life. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.
