1 Timothy 6:6-8 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. --NIV

In the name of the One Who makes us content, amen.

A retired pastor once said something to the effect, "I've noticed that when times are tough, stewardship is better, and when times are good, stewardship suffers." When we are well blessed, there is a great temptation to become very materialistic. It is then that we will want what we don't have, and even what we cannot have. At such times our focus turns away from eternal treasures, to the temporary things of this world.

But we are told that with every temptation there is a way of escape. If we focus on the eternal treasures, we will not be so tempted by material things. God wants us to desire material treasures, and they are worth much more because they last forever. May God have mercy on us and grant us contentment in material things, by blessing us with eternal treasures. Amen.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You bless us with everything that we need for this life, and also give us blessings in eternity. Forgive us for not being satisfied with what we have in this life. Keep us from becoming attached to the things of this world. Help us to focus on eternal treasures, so that we are content, amen.
