Ephesians 2:1-5 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lust of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and we were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved). --NASB In the name of the One Who made us alive together with Christ, amen.

We may not like it, but it is a fact; we are all evil by nature. We like to look at sins as something we do. We like to think of ourselves as sinful because we sin. That's easier to take because it is sort of outside of ourselves. But the reality is that we sin because we are sinful. And the full part of sin-ful can't be stressed enough. By nature we are filled with evil to capacity. We are the embodiment of evil. What hope do we have?

We have the hope, the certainty, that God loved us so much that He made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in sin. Yes, the sinful nature is death, but Christ is life. Amen.

Prayer: Lord God, You are rich in mercy making us alive even when we were dead in sin. We acknowledge that we are sinful and evil by nature, and we praise and glorify You for Your great mercy. Bless our new man, and keep it alive in Jesus, amen.
