Genesis 5:3 When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth. --NASB In the name of the One Who created us in His image, amen.
Adam was created in the image of God, and lost that image by sinning. He passed that sinful image on to his children, and so we too are born in Adam' s sinful image. Some theorize that the sinful nature is passed on through the male line. The thought is that women have the sinful nature, but do not pass it on. This would explain why Jesus, Who had a human mother, did not have the sinful nature. Whether or not this theory is true, Jesus was born without sin. The sinful nature has been passed on to all people except Christ.
It is for this reason that Jesus is our Savior. If He Himself had the sinful nature, He could not have saved us. But because He is without sin, His death brought salvation to us. Amen.
