Holy Saturday, 3/30/02

Romans 6:3-5 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through Baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection. --NASB In the name of the One into Whose death and resurrection we have been baptized, amen.

On Holy Saturday the ancient church used to hold Baptisms. That was because Baptism connects us to Jesus’ death and resurrection, and Holy Saturday falls between Jesus’ death and resurrection. In Baptism our sinful nature is crucified, and we are raised to new life in Jesus. It is by virtue of our Baptism that we are able to serve the Lord in righteousness. It is by virtue of Baptism that we have the promise of the resurrection. Amen.

Prayer: Lord Jesus you died for the sins of the world and rose again to bring us new life now, and eternal life in heaven. Thank you for the wonderful gift of Baptism, that we might live in You, amen.
