John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies." --NASB In the name of the One Who is the Truth, amen.
This passage says much about the devil. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he is the father of lies. We should never be surprised where the devil shows up. If he wants to murder you in the ultimate sense, that is, cause you to lose your faith, we can expect that he will lie and say that harmful things are really good--things like drugs, or extramarital sex. He will say that the Divine Service is boring and that pseudo-Christian religions are much better. But we must remember that he is a liar and a murderer. We should expect such lies and avoid falling into His trap.
Christ Jesus, on the other hand, is truth. He is the One Who reveals God and God's will to us. He is the One Who warns us about Satan and his lies. He is the One Who saves us. Amen.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, in your mercy you warn us about the father of lies. Keep us safe from his murderous schemes. Guard our precious faith, amen.
