Thursday after the Fifth Sunday after Easter, 5/24/01Matthew 5:44, 45 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. --KJV In the name of the One Who encourages us to love our enemies, amen.
Sometimes when we are trying to figure something out, it is helpful to look at the worst case scenario. The worst case scenario for prayer is exactly what we have in this passage. So, if we want to know for whom we should pray, we can look to this passage and see that we should even prayer for people who persecute us. And, if we should pray for them, we should also pray for everyone one else. That is a godly attitude, because God Himself is gracious and pours out blessings on both the godly and the ungodly. Amen.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to have the same attitude as Yourself, since you bless even those who hate you. We ask this so that our enemies might be shamed and repent of their hatred, and walk with us in the True Faith, amen.
