Saturday after the Second Sunday after Easter, 5/5/01

John 17:20 I do not ask in behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word.

In the name of the One Who is believed on through the word of the apostles, amen.

Our former president was accused of doing things simply for the sake of his legacy. How we are remembered, and the effect that we have on the world is a great motivator for many people. But the fact is that most of us don't have much of a lasting effect on the world. We work all our lives and then, after we are gone, little of our work continues.

But the ministry of Jesus continues on to this day. He is still being preached among the nations, and many people are being brought to faith in Him. Christ Jesus was very concerned about His legacy. He was so concerned about it that He prayed even for us who believe in Him through the word of the disciples. But His concern for His legacy wasn't motivated by pride, rather it was motivated by love for all people. His legacy is salvation for all who believe in Him. Amen.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for caring so much about us that You prayed for us long before we were even born. Keep us safe in the true faith so that we may spend eternity with You, amen.
