Monday after the Third Sunday of End Time, 11/ 20/00Matthew 24: 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. --NIV
In the name of the One Whose words will never pass away, amen.
We live in a temporary world. What is "true" today, may not be "true" tomorrow. What is immoral today will likely be thought of as "moral" tomorrow. Marriages fail, and our friends leave us. But in all of this we can be sure that God's word always remains, and it never changes. So, when we look to see what is good and what is evil, we should look to God's word. When we want to know something about God, we need to look to His word.
There are all sorts of people out there who will tell us what we want to hear, and there are people who think they need to add a few things to God's word, such as traditions, or the rulings of human councils. But we have no assurance that anything other than God's word is true. But that is OK, because it makes it very easy for us. We know exactly where to look for the answers. We also know that we can be certain of the answers, because things aren't going to change tomorrow. We can know the true God, and know what He expects of us. Most of all, we can be absolutely certain that our sins, no matter how horrible or secret, are forgiven in Jesus. Praise be to God for His eternal Word. Amen.
Prayer: Dear Lord, things change in our world at a frightening pace. It has gotten to the point where we begin to believe that nothing is permanent. But You told us that Your Word is permanent, and we thank You for this permanence in our ever changing world. Guide us by Your word so that we remain in the true faith, amen.
