Tuesday after the Second Sunday after End Time, 11/21/001 Corinthians 2: 9-11 But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. --NKJV
In the name of the Spirit of God, amen.
Our Society thinks it is smarter than God's word. It thinks that God's word should change with the times, that as the norms of society change, God's word should change to fit those norms. That's really not a new idea, and if you look at the things that the Bible addresses, they were attacking the very same things that society wants to excuse today, whether it is sex outside of marriage, or euthanasia. More than that, people today want to speak of Mother God* saying, "God is spirit, therefore God has no gender." Such people want to tell God who and what He is. But it is not up to us to tell God who and what He is. It is God's job to tell us about Himself.
If you are tempted to philosophize about God, dig into Holy Scripture and see what God says about Himself. By doing that you will know the truth. You will see again that while you are a sinful creature, God loves you with a profound love. You will see that while you might have some image of God in your own mind, the Lord is much more wonderful and good that any of us could possibly imagine. He alone is eternal, He alone is the source of every blessing, He alone has told us about Himself and everything we need to spend eternity with Him. Glory be to our wonderful God. Amen.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive us for the times when we think we know better than Your word. Help us always to look only to Your word which was inspired by Your Holy Spirit. Guard our faith and enlighten us through Your word. Show us again the forgiveness that Jesus won for us on the cross. In His name we pray, amen.
*God always refers to Himself in male terms. The closest He comes to speaking of Himself in female terms is when Jesus cries over Jerusalem and says that He would like to gather her children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. One of the reasons that God always refers to Himself in male terms is undoubtedly so that we do not confuse creation with God. A mother god(dess) gives birth to creation, and therefore creation is god. A father God can do no such thing, and therefore creation is not God. In any case, we must speak of God in the terms that He Himself uses. We have no right to call him things that He has not called Himself.
