Wednesday after the Second Sunday of End Time, 11/22/00

Isaiah 8: 19, 20 And when they say to you, "Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter," should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

In the name of the One Who is our God, amen.

I can hardly seem to get away from the occult these days. I drive past the bright yellow house with the sign on it for the palm reader. On TV there are the ads for Tarot Card readers. In my morning newspaper there is the horoscope. The list goes on. All these claim to be able to tell me what will happen in the future. In some cases they may be right. Some of these people may actually have a limited ability to foretell events of the future. But God has spoken against such people, and if He has spoken against them, their power can't be from Him. Therefore their power must be from the devil.

Now I don't want to be influenced by the devil. I'd rather not be open to his manipulation, so I stay away from the mediums and fortunetellers. After all, God, Who loves me, has told me in His word everything that really is important for my future. Anything that a medium or fortuneteller would tell me would be concerned only about the things of this life. But those are so temporary and meaningless in the over all scheme of things. God, on the other hand, tells me about eternity and everything I need to know for eternity. Glory be to God who cautions us against those who would lead us away from Him, and tells us everything we need to know for salvation. Amen.

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, You are a great and wise God, telling us everything we need to know in order to live happily in eternity. But there is so much temptation around us from false prophets and charlatans. Guard our precious faith! Give us Your Holy Spirit so that we remain in the True Faith. Help us to trust only Your word. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
