All Saints Day, 11/1/01

Rev. 7:13-14 "Then one of the elders answered saying to me, 'Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?' And I said to him, 'Sir, you know.' So he said to me, 'These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.'" NKJV In the name of the Lamb, amen.

Today is the festival of All Saints. On this day we give glory to God for sending faithful Christians before us to be our example both in faith and in life. We also thank and praise our Lord and Savior for taking these home to Himself in heaven where they may now sit around the great banquet table of the Lamb in His kingdom and eat His feast continually.

These Saints are those who were covered by the white robe of Christ's righteousness in Holy Baptism. While they lived on this earth they wrestled with sin, death, and the devil, and endured the pain and suffering of this life. But, by God's grace, they persevered in the faith and have now inherited the crown of everlasting life. They have been made permanently clean by Jesus' blood and now enjoy, without ceasing, that great marriage Supper of the Son of God for all eternity. May God grant the same to us. Amen.

Prayer: Lord God, Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your many Saints who have gone before us. While in this life they endured many trials and tribulations, but were also cleansed of the guilt of their sins by the blood of Your Son Jesus Christ. We thank You that You kept them in the one, true faith and that You that now You have granted them eternal life with You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
