Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'" --NASB in the name of the One on Whose word we live, amen.

It is very easy for us to get caught up in pursuing the unimportant things in life. New cars, bigger houses, the latest music and videos--these all cry out for our attention. God reminds us that these things are temporary. In this passage He reminds us that food for the body is less important than food for the soul. Yet consider how much time and money we spend to have a healthy body compared to how much we are willing to spend to have a healthy soul. If the sermon runs a little long on Sunday mornings, we tend to get quite restless.

But food for the soul is of far greater importance. Food for the soul is eternal food. It is the food that matters for eternity. It is the food that will truly keep us alive and healthy no matter what happens to our bodies. And spiritual food is of no cost to us, and it will never make us fat. Instead it will make us healthy and fit to live forever. Amen.

Prayer: Lord, forgive us for pursuing material things rather than Your word. Keep us in the true faith through Your holy word, so that we may live forever, amen.
