Deuteronomy 8: 2, 3 Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. --NIV

In the name of the One on Whose word we live, amen.

Our Savior quoted this verse when He was tempted in the desert. He quoted it because Satan was twisting the truth. In our day there are many who twist the truth. They sound good. They are friendly and seem to be very caring, but their words cause death rather than life. They might deny that Christ physically rose from the dead. They might say that there is some part that we play in earning forgiveness and salvation. They might argue against what God has told us about how He created all things. They might even suggest that sex is the same as love, or that drugs will give you knowledge.

They twist the Word of God, and we must be able to fight against that twisting. We must have some sort of standard to go by, some ruler to measure the truth. That standard and ruler is the Word of God itself. We live on the Word of God. We must use the word of God to judge the teachings of the churches and individuals so that we are not led away from God.

Thankfully we have the Word of God as our standard and ruler. It tells us everything we need to know in order to have eternal life. It shows us the truth, when others try to lead us away from the truth. It cuts through what sounds good, and shows us what is good. May God keep you today, and always, safe in the truth. Amen.

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Your word to live on. Keep us in Your holy word so that we always know the truth--so that we recognize the voice of our Savior and do not stray away from Him. We ask this by the power of Your Holy Spirit, and in our Savior Jesus' name, amen.
