Ephesians 2: 19--21 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. --NIV

In the name of the Chief Cornerstone, amen.

We were blaming things on el nino, but the weather and earthquakes are still raging two years later. And when we see the pictures of the destruction we are amazed. Yet, some buildings survive. They are built differently. They may be built out of brick instead of wood. They might be above the flood waters. A lot has to do with the foundation. Some buildings don't really have one. Others are in the wrong place. In any case the earthquakes come and go, and the floods bass by, and some buildings stand. What our foundation is made of makes a difference.

So it is with our spiritual hose. We can build out of the soft foundations like human philosophy or our own feelings, or we can build using the word of God. When the storms of life come, the spiritual house built out of the word of God, the foundation of the apostles and prophets, will stand; the others will suffer much damage.

If you examine your foundation and find that there are some cracks in it--you don't totally agree with everything Holy Scripture says, you can repair the foundations. You can spend more time in God's word and carefully examine it to see if your disagreement is valid, or if perhaps you might be mistaken. Or you can ignore the portions of God's word that you disagree with, and fill the cracks with the old bottles and dirt of human philosophy, science, and emotions. In the end the storms will continue to rage around you, and what you do with your foundation will determine if your spiritual house stands or falls. May God show you clearly where the cracks are in your foundation, and fill them with His holy word. May He strengthen your foundation so that it stands firm through the storms of this life, and the hurricane of the judgment. Our Lord wants your house to stand, and He is ready to fill any cracks in your foundation with the concrete of His word. Amen.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, You are our cornerstone. You give shape to our foundation and make us stand firm in the storms of life. Give us Your Holy Spirit and make us stand even in the judgment to come, amen.
