Revelation 14:6 Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth--to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people. --NKJV
In the name of the One Who gave us the everlasting Gospel, amen.
What is the most important thing in your life besides God? Is it a painting you did in school? Your stamp collection or Beanie Babies? Perhaps it is your children or spouse. Maybe you are one of those people who take great pride in their work. Whatever it is, how would you feel if it was about to be destroyed? When I was a boy my neighbor died because he ran back into his burning house to get his stamp collection. His collection was so important to him that he was willing to risk his life for it.
God has something that is so important to Him that He was willing to risk His life for it--His children. He loved His children, His creation, so much that He was willing to have His Son suffer a horrible death for them. This is the very Gospel itself.
But about 500 years ago the Gospel, the very food of life for God's children, was about to be lost--at least in the Western World.. The everlasting Gospel was being taught as a work of man, rather than a work of God. God couldn't let it happen. He had to act. He picked up a tool, sort of a hammer, and struck the machine that was taking the nutrients out of the spiritual food known as the Gospel. The hammer was Martin Luther, and the machine was the Roman Church.
The result is that you and I have heard the everlasting Gospel, we have eaten the spiritual food, and we have eternal life. So, nearly two thousand years ago, Our Lord was able to give a vision to Saint John. In the vision He showed him that even at the end there is still an angel who will proclaim the everlasting Gospel. May that Gospel be your food of life forever. May you rest assured that there is no one who can destroy the Gospel; God will keep it for us. Amen.
Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, you value every human soul so much that you were willing to sacrifice Christ our Lord for us. But you have given no other way for us to be saved except by the Gospel of His death in our place. Continue to preserve Your everlasting Gospel for us so that it will be seen how faithful You are, and all people will bow to the glory of Your Son our Lord. It is in His name that we pray, for He is Your dear Son, and our brother, amen.
