Matthew 5: 44, 45 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. --NIV
In the name of the One Who provides for the evil and the good, amen.
Sometimes I wish God were a little bit more like me. I mean, there just doesn't seem to be any justice in life. Criminals become rich and the poor suffer. Someone pulls in front of me and takes the parking spot I was going to take, and I get the ulcer. I work hard and try to support my family, someone else lives off Welfare. Why doesn't God strike such people?
It is easy for us to want God to be like us. It is very difficult for us to want to be like God. Our heavenly Father, Who ruled all things, placed our Savior Jesus Christ as ruler over all things. He did this because our Savior came to earth and gave His life for us. Now every knee is to bow to Christ Jesus just as they bow to the Father. The kingdom that Jesus has is a threefold kingdom. It is a kingdom of power, a kingdom of grace, and a kingdom of glory. These three kingdoms are hooked together and cannot be completely separated.
But the fact that Jesus has compassion on all creatures, good and evil, has most to do with His kingdom of power. He rules and controls all things, and He provides for all creatures. Christ Jesus is the One by Whom and for Whom all things were created (Colossians 1: 16). If you had created, or even given birth or fathered those people who are criminals, cut in front of you, or live off your hard work; you would not be so quick to destroy them. Neither is our God and Savior Jesus Christ who wants everyone to be saved.
So we should be more like God and love all people. We should turn to our Savior and ask His forgiveness for not loving His creation. And, we should be certain that since He loves us, He will forgive us and give us what we need in order to love as He loves. Amen.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, You are the One by Whom all things were created. You are the One for Whom all things were created. You control and direct all things. You hold all things together. You love all creatures. But we are unworthy of Your love, because we ourselves are unloving. In your grace (undeserved love) forgive us for our evil of not loving. Give us Your Holy Spirit and fill us with Your love and concern for all creatures. We ask this for the glory of Your holy name, amen.
