Genesis 18:20-24
And the LORD said, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.” And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. And Abraham drew near, and said, “Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?”
--KJV
In the name of the One Who wants us to be salt and light. Amen.

How easy it is for us to look at the wickedness of particular places and long for God’s judgment. It takes love for others to desire God’s mercy. Abraham understood God’s justice, and His mercy. Abraham had compassion on others to the point that He stood before God and pleaded on behalf of Sodom and Gomorrah. God was willing to show mercy as far as Abraham asked for it. Unfortunately for Sodom and Gomorrah, there were not even ten righteous people living there. In fact, only four were found, and the cities were destroyed.

Even so, Abraham showed the sort of love for his fellow man that makes Christian the salt of the earth. Their presence in the world preserves it from destruction, and gives unbelievers time to repent and be saved. Amen.

Prayer:
Lord God, heavenly Father, the day of Your wrath is at hand. Hold back long enough for Your people to reach everyone with Your Holy Gospel. Send the Holy Spirit through Your word to work faith in Christ Jesus in all who hear the Gospel. Amen.
